The only thing I didn't do was join a small group as recommended. I have attended a couple of them. They just seem very awkward for me.
Sojourn New Albany usually has a great message and amazing music. So why a 2 star rating?
Love the Church, Great small group concept of multiplication. (When a group grows it breaks off and forms its own small group). At East campus pastor Kevin does a great job of communicating biblical truth from the scriptures and has a unique ability to preach passages in humility. I love this church and I am glad to actively serve the body of believers here. This is by far the most diverse group of believers ranging from Armenians to Calvinists to seminary students and professors to recent converts. If you are "church shopping" you should consider Sojourn East or any Sojourn church first!
After I did these steps, that was it. No follow up. No phone call, no speaking to me at church about it, nothing. Absolutely nothing. Then on top of it, pastors that don't even know my name. " Hello sir" and that's it. Even though I have met them multiple times. I get it if they have a lapse and can't recall my name. Met with a standard greeting and walking on I don't get.
Great community and people. Joyous celebration of Christ.
I'm still not a member, and probably won't become one. Why? No follow up and the way I was treated.
This church continues to baffle me. Great message and outreach to the neighborhood. Seemingly indifference if you don't fit into their mold. Time to look around at other churches.
When I met with a pastor before the Baptism, he asked me how long I had attended. Ironically I knew him before I started attending. He then asked if I had been tithing. I said sometimes, but not on a regular basis. He then asked me why not? Big turn off. Then asked me " Why would you want to join our church, especially one like ours?" Notice the wording here. Another big turn off.
Great music, great theology.
Ended up not having a good experience here due to church leadership discovering non essential differences in theology regarding the OT... if you have Messianic views and try to maintain the Hebraic aspects of the Christian faith like observing Passover and other things like that... This may not be the place for you if the same members of leadership are there when I attended. If you have questions about anything please feel free to contact me and God bless!
During this 5 year period, my daughters volunteered for a year and a half in the nursery. I went through the process of attending a membership class. Had a private meeting with a deacon or pastor. Then went through a full immersion Baptism in order to join the church. They wouldn't count my Baptism as a baby.
What a blessing it is to sojourn alongside such a great group of people that aren't afraid to show that they are just normal (sometimes messy, sometimes beautiful) people. We are a group of people that are pursuing knowing, understanding and loving GOD with all that we have. We also maintain a key focus on spreading our love to our neighbors in the same way that GOD has spread his love abroad among us.
Because I have attended the church almost since it started. I think it started in October of 2011 if I'm not mistaken. I went there for the first time in March of 2012.
